Survivors of Gun Violence: Wraparound Services


In our community it can feel as if every life has been impacted by the violence that is all too common in our neighborhood. Yet just as the whole community is impacted, the whole community can create healing. Deep collaborative support following a crime can help offset the deep pain and practical crises that it causes. Through a generous 2025-26 grant by Cook County's Justice Advisory Council, R CITY has been granted funds specifically directed to care for those most deeply impacted by gun violence. Services available are listed below.

  • Supporting families laying their loved ones to rest, R CITY can provide a limited amount of financial support toward funeral expenses, including services, burial or cremation, or family-related costs like clothing.

  • Supporting students who have experienced gun violence, R CITY can provide a limited amount of financial support to reduce barriers to education, moving students closer to the future they seek. Such support may include tuition assistance, room and board, uniforms, school fees, books and materials, or other specific needs.

  • To support families as they survive the impact of gun violence, some assistance is available for the immediate needs of the household, including: Housing or utilities assistance, clothing, food assistance or school related expenses.

  • Supporting teens and young adults impacted by gun violence with mentoring activities, life skills classes, social emotional coaching and restorative justice practices.

  • Creating a web of support for survivors through referrals to partnering organizations providing:

    • immediate household needs

    • utility assistance

    • medical costs

    • mental health costs

    • assistance applying for victim compensation

    • assistance applying for public assistance

    • food assistance
