Summer 2019 Assistant Crew Leader

Provide hands-on oversight of youth participants assigned to crew, assist head crew leader in managing the job site, transport youth & tools/equipment to and from job site, handle minor disciplinary issues, assist in teaching and mentoring during classes, help to ensure safety of crew members.

Physical Requirements:

Involves setting scaffold towers, climbing on scaffolding, grinding, raking and filling joints between bricks, mixing mortar, carrying equipment and materials (mortar bags weigh 80 lbs.), keeping the job site clean, and keeping an accurate inventory of tools.  Projects are dirty and physically demanding,  particularly given the high heat and humidity of a typical summer.


Summer 2019 Dates and Schedule:

  • Staff training: Monday-Tuesday, June 24-25  10 AM- 6 PM

  • Track 3 training: Wednesday-Friday, June 26-28  8 AM to 3 PM

  • All ages begin July 1st, regular hours begin. (See below)

  • Non-paid vacation: July 4-5th

  • Last day: August 9

Hours and Pay Rate:

Typical hours: M-TH  7:15 AM -3:45 PM, Friday 7:15-1:15

Starting Pay: Chicago minimum wage, $13/hour
